5 out of 5 stars Garmin GPSmap 478   February 15, 2010
Larry S. Mccormick
Outstanding product! Kit contains everything you need for boating and automobile usage and its user friendly converting easily from water to street applications. Large screen with great backlighting making it easy to see while on the water in poor lighting and weather conditions. I am also impressed with how long the battery lasts even with the backlight on maximum intensity. Before purchasing I had read about the poor quality of the 12 volt adaptor but haven't had any issues with my unit.

This is a wonderful gps-very accurate. This is the first one I have used and it is very easy to understand. I wish I had read description better-there are no fresh water lakes included. The value is great for this product.

4 out of 5 stars The added "Lakes" chip   September 22, 2009
John E. Backman (Bloswsburg, PA)
The 478 is perfect for roads and coastal waters. However, the chip available for additional information regarding inland lakes does not include the Army Corps of Engineers flood control lakes in the Northern PA area.

5 out of 5 stars Garmin GPSmap 478 GPS Receiver   September 10, 2009
Gary Toth (Marquette, MI. USA)
Much better than I expected...I wish I had it 2 months earlier. The mapping details are excellent...it has street maps & coastal charts. The screen size, coloring & resolution makes it quick & easy to read at a glance. It is user friendly. It is much more than a GPS. You can inter-phase it, use it as a depth finder & you can get satellite reception and use it as an XM radio. It features the U.S. marine detail map utilizing BlueChart g2 technololgy. Accepts data cards for additional map detail, points of interest & marine aerial photo reference. Comes preloaded with City Navigator North America NT covering the U.S., Canada & Puerto Rico.
