Product Description

On September 3, 2008 Alaska Governor Sarah Palin gave a speech at the Republican National Convention that electrified the nation and instantly made her one of the most recognizable women in the world.

As chief executive of America′s largest state, she had built a record as a reformer who cast aside politics-as-usual and pushed through changes other politicians only talked about: Energy independence. Ethics reform. And the biggest private sector infrastructure project in U.S. history. While revitalizing public school funding and ensuring the state met its responsibilities to seniors and Alaska Native populations, Palin also beat the political "good ol′ boys club" at their own game and brought Big Oil to heel.

Like her GOP running mate, John McCain, Palin wasn′t a packaged and over-produced "candidate." She was a Main Street American woman: a working mom, wife of a blue collar union man, and mother of five children, the eldest of whom was serving his country in a yearlong deployment in Iraq and the youngest, an infant with special needs. Palin′s hometown story touched a populist nerve, rallying hundreds of thousands of ordinary Americans to the GOP ticket.

But as the campaign unfolded, Palin became a lightning rod for both praise and criticism. Supporters called her "refreshing," "honest," a kitchen-table public servant they felt would fight for their interests. Opponents derided her as a wide-eyed Pollyanna unprepared for national leadership. But none of them knew the real Sarah Palin.

In this eagerly anticipated memoir, Palin paints an intimate portrait of growing up in the wilds of Alaska; meeting her lifelong love; her decision to enter politics; the importance of faith and family; and the unique joys and trials of life as a high-profile working mother. She also opens up for the first time about the 2008 presidential race, providing a rare, mom′s-eye view of high-stakes national politics - from patriots dedicated to "Country First" to slick politicos bent on winning at any cost.

Going Rogue traces one ordinary citizen′s extraordinary journey, and imparts Palin′s vision of a way forward for America and her unfailing hope in the greatest nation on earth.

5 out of 5 stars Loved it!   September 5, 2010

I would just like to point out the the majority of the people who gave this book a one star rating probably didn't even read it. (:
I actually READ this book. (: (: (: (: (:

I really enjoyed this book! I now think of Sarah as any old American. Not a half black half white man who had a pampered life living as an elite and yet can somehow relate to the black Americans that live in the ghetto? If you are lost I am referring to Obama. My point is that Sarah's story is about an all American lady who did not attend an Ivy League school yet served in public office and raised her family at the same time- which is a difficult path to forge in today's society. Although there are some things I can say I disagree with, I think she is a genuine person that does not carry a specific agenda like many of our politicians. I can relate to her more than others. Especially a beautiful, conservative, family-friendly female. Sarah has it all- a wonderful family and a job serving in public office. She is inspiring. I hope I can do it all someday like her.

Republican or Democrat, whatever you are, you should give Sarah a chance. The media trashed her reputation unfairly while giving Obama and his crew the upper advantage. She has a great story. If anything else, you will have an appreciation for Alaska. I have no desire to live in a cold place like Alaska, but I loved the description of her homeland. Thank you Sarah for sharing your story with us! I know you are ignoring the close minded liberals that have no life other than to give your book a one star rating and create new accounts to try and make your rating go down.

3 out of 5 stars Rising quality of public expectation simultaneously in USA as in Russia   September 2, 2010

If USA would return Alaska with Sarah Palin to Russia, it would instantly rise quality of public life and politics as in Russia as in USA.

1 out of 5 stars Why continue to support flash-in-the-pan politicnas such as Sarah Palin when we have intellecutal supermen like Barack Obama!?!?   September 2, 2010

I was at the local Thirty-One Flavors the other evening when I saw some white, old person with this book: Going Rouge: An American Life by Sarah Palin! Out of a sense of morbid curiosity, I decided to purchase the kindle version of this book and read through it on my lunchbreak.

One need only to look at Sarah Palins' tried and failed methods of limiting governemtn, reducing taxes, supporting the constitution and the framer's original intent to see why she lost horribly in the last election. However, this doesn't stop old, white people from supporting her and media mouthpieces such as Glen Beck!

One need only look at the amazing success of Barack Obama's presidency to date to see why far left socialism is the only, ONLY answer to the problems are country is currently facing! The POTUS has nearly singlehandedly saved the American economy by passing his massive, multi-trillion dollar bailouts. We also can't be too soon to forget how he has finally made history by becoming the country's first Afro-american president; a fact that de facto makes him qualified. And last but not least, children with preexisting conditions are now able to purchase cheap medical insurance.

In summation, ignore trendy, so-called-rouge tea party candidates such as Sarah Palin and continue to endorse political giants such as Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi, Joe Biden, and Michael Dukakis!

5 out of 5 stars Her day in Court!   September 1, 2010
Book Glutton

A lot of water has gone under the bridge with this lady. Comments, accusations and smears have been leveled against her and her family. Public opinion has been heavily swayed by her media coverage. Nevertheless, everyone deserves their day in court. This is Sarah's--in her own words.

I don't believe there could have been a Ghost Writer here. This is too personal! She speaks about personal matters that were not privy to anyone. One example is her conversations with her daughter while driving in the car with her. Another is the travelling and behind the scenes details that she and her family experienced before the Convention.

Listening to the audio version, in her own voice, she speaks with the emotion and expressiveness that she must have experienced during the campaign and post-campaign months. I think she comes across very well and convincing. I think she lets people see who she is, what she is about, and how she personally had to deal with the skirmishes and clashes she ran into head-on, and probably unknowingly.

One could say that she was not ready for prime-time, but I think we have to give her due. I think people on both sides of where she stands ought to listen to her--hear her out before any more judgments are made against her. Walk a little in her shoes. Read the book--completely! Give her day in court. Treat her the way you would like to be treated. And then decide, either way.

2 out of 5 stars Shallow and dishonest   August 30, 2010

I don't like Sarah Palin and think she's a moron. Still, I tried to be objective about this review. I've read many memoirs in the past year: Monster, Infidel, Open, Happens Every Day, and The Politician. What's really striking about this book is the lack of depth or emotion. There are many example of this. For example, she describes being pranked by the Canadian who poses as Sarcozy, but gives us nothing about what this experience was like for her. It must have been extremely embarassing but you'd never know that from this book. The entire book is just "this happened, then this happened, then this happened."

After the campaign, many who ran McCain's campaign described trying to work with Palin as a very stressful and that there was a lot of tension. Although she alludes to some problems, we're just told how "pumped" she and her family were. It was much worse than she describes. And of course, she tells us over and over that she quit her job (that's right, when you leave a job voluntarily and don't take another one, that's called "quitting") for the good of Alaska. She never mentions all the money she knew she would make by quitting.
